150th: Reflect, Renew, Revive

We are celebrating 150 years of worship and service.

On 4 December 1872 the foundation stones were laid for the new Wesley Church in Reading. The opening services were on 15 October 1873.

For the last few months we have been celebrating this anniversary, with visits from a number of preachers associated with the church in the past. We have welcomed the chairman of the Southampton District of the Methodist Church and the vice-president of conference. We have enjoyed a Coronation Big Tea with the local community, mounted an exhibition of photographs, produced a new book on the history of Wesley church, and progressed the final phase of our development of the old manse as a charity and community hub. Building work will be finished as our anniversary year reaches its climax.

Still to come:

14-15 October Anniversary weekend
150th anniversary of the church opening.
Saturday 14th. 6.30pm Barn Dance for all. Live band.
Sunday 15th. 10.30pm anniversary celebration service. Guest preacher Rev. Rob Cotton.
Followed by bring-and-share lunch

We hope you will be able to join us at these events.

The Lord is God and he has made his light shine upon us. (Psalm 118.27)
